KATRA: Demonstrating unwavering commitment and a relentless pursuit of justice, Reasi Police has achieved a major breakthrough by apprehending a proclaimed offender who had been evading arrest for nearly ten years in multiple criminal cases.
The accused, Mohd Tariq alias Bafar, son of Mohd Aslam alias Pinku, a resident of Bhagta, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi, was wanted in several theft and house-breaking cases registered at Police Station Katra. The cases include:
- FIR No. 191/2021 under Section 379 IPC
- FIR No. 22/2017 under Sections 457/380 RPC
- FIR No. 77/2016 under Sections 457/380/511 RPC
- FIR No. 14/2017 under Sections 457/380/201 RPC
- FIR No. 11/2017 under Sections 457/380 RPC
- FIR No. 188/2021 under Section 379 IPC
Proclamation orders had been issued against the accused by the Hon’ble Court of Munsiff JMIC Katra, and proceedings for publication in newspapers were initiated in compliance with court directions. Despite repeated raids and sustained efforts by the police over the years, the accused continued to evade arrest in an attempt to escape the clutches of law.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs and after continuous technical and human surveillance, a dedicated team of Police Station Katra launched a meticulously planned operation and successfully apprehended the proclaimed offender. The arrest marks the culmination of persistent and coordinated efforts by Reasi Police to ensure that no offender remains beyond the reach of justice.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the Hon’ble Court for further legal proceedings in accordance with law.
The operation was carried out by SHO Police Station Katra, Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS, and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS.
Commending the successful operation, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh, JKPS, reiterated the district police’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime and emphasized that absconding from justice is never a permanent escape. He further stated that sustained drives are being conducted across the district to execute pending warrants and court orders in a time-bound manner, thereby reinforcing the rule of law and strengthening public confidence in the justice system.
