JAMMU: The Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), Jammu Local Centre, celebrated Royal Charter Day at its Institutional Complex in Sector-3, Channi Himmat, Jammu, bringing together engineers from various government departments, organisations and senior members of the engineering fraternity.
Er B R Verma, former Secretary, J&K State Board of Technical Education and Chief Coordinator, Yogananda College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu, was the Chief Guest, while Er Anil Verma, Chairman, IEI Jammu Local Centre, presided over the function.
In his welcome address, Anil Verma highlighted the significance of Royal Charter Day, describing it as an occasion to commemorate an important milestone in the institution’s history and reflect on the enduring legacy of engineering excellence. He urged engineers across professions to enrol as Corporate Members of IEI to benefit from the latest developments in engineering and technology disseminated through seminars and symposia.
The keynote address was delivered by Er B L Rawal, former Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), J&K Government and former Honorary Secretary, IEI Jammu Local Centre. He elaborated on the history, relevance and privileges associated with the Royal Charter granted to IEI by King Emperor George V at Buckingham Palace, London, on September 9, 1935.
Rawal highlighted that IEI is the only professional body in India to have been granted the Royal Charter, noting that the institution continues to exercise the privileges associated with the charter even after Independence.
Chief Guest B R Verma appreciated the keynote address and lauded the Jammu Local Centre for organising the commemorative event and undertaking activities aimed at promoting engineering knowledge year after year.
The proceedings were conducted by Er Samir Sharma, former Honorary Secretary, who also presented the vote of thanks to the gathering and media personnel for their participation.
