JAMMU: A pigeon bearing a ring stamped with a Pakistani mobile number was found near a house in border village Kattal Gujjran in Hiranagar Sector on Wednesday evening, prompting security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding its presence.
According to information, a local resident spotted the pigeon near his house at around 7:15 pm and, upon examining the bird, noticed a ring on its leg carrying a Pakistani mobile number. The pigeon was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
The incident comes two days after two suspicious pigeons carrying numbered rings were reportedly found in Ramgarh Sector of Samba district on September 14. Security agencies are investigating both incidents to ascertain the origin of the birds and the purpose of the markings found on their legs.
Officials are examining the matter as part of the ongoing security assessment along the Jammu border.
