JAMMU: The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra continued peacefully on Friday, with a fresh batch of pilgrims leaving Jammu for the Baltal base camp while another convoy of devotees returned towards Jammu under tight security arrangements.
According to the Zonal Police Control Room, Jammu, the 29th batch comprising 926 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at 2.59 a.m. in a convoy of 42 vehicles for the Baltal route.
The batch included 693 men, 178 women, 34 sadhus and 21 sadhvis. The pilgrims were travelling in 21 buses, three medium motor vehicles, 17 light motor vehicles and one two-wheeler.
The convoy passed through Ramban district on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway under multi-tier security before proceeding towards the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district.
Traffic police and security personnel remained deployed along the route to ensure smooth and secure movement of the Yatra convoy.
Meanwhile, the 27th down convoy carrying 133 pilgrims departed from the Baltal base camp for Jammu.
According to the Joint Police Control Room, Baltal, the returning convoy comprised 110 men, 21 women and two children travelling in seven vehicles, including three heavy motor vehicles, one light motor vehicle and three trucks.
