Rome/Warsaw: Nestlé has confirmed that a major shipment of KitKat bars was stolen during transit in Europe, in what is being described as a large-scale chocolate heist.
In a statement shared on KitKat’s official Instagram handle, the company revealed that more than 12 tonnes of chocolate bars were taken while being transported from its factory in Central Italy to their destination in Poland.
“We can confirm that 12T of KitKat products were stolen while in transit between our factory in Central Italy and their destination in Poland. We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate,” the company said.
Nestlé clarified that the shipment had left its production facility the previous week and was scheduled for distribution across Europe before reaching its final destination. The company assured consumers that there are no safety concerns and that overall supply remains unaffected.
While a spokesperson lightheartedly remarked on the thieves’ “exceptional taste,” the company acknowledged that such incidents are becoming increasingly common within the logistics sector.
The unusual theft quickly sparked reactions online, with social media users turning the incident into a wave of memes and jokes.
The incident comes just days ahead of Easter, a time traditionally associated with chocolate treats and festive hunts, adding an ironic twist to the case.
