JAMMU: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas by organising a special lecture in honour of the courage and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil War.
The programme began with a welcome address by Prof. Virender Koundal, Director of the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies.
Prof. Koundal highlighted the enduring importance of Kargil Vijay Diwas in India’s military history and said the victory symbolised the courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment of the armed forces in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He urged students to draw inspiration from the patriotism, resilience and spirit of national service demonstrated by the Kargil heroes.
Delivering the special lecture, NDTV Consulting Editor Pradeep Dutta reflected on the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas from the perspective of a war correspondent who had reported from conflict zones.
Drawing upon his experience of covering battlefields, Dutta spoke about the extraordinary courage, resilience and sacrifices of Indian soldiers under extremely difficult conditions.
He said the Kargil War demonstrated India’s military capability and strategic resolve, strengthened national unity and reaffirmed the need for constant vigilance to protect territorial integrity.
Dutta also underlined the importance of responsible and credible journalism during conflict, saying accurate reporting served as a bridge between the battlefield and the nation while preserving the legacy of soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the country.
Faculty members, research scholars and students participated in the programme and paid tributes to the soldiers whose sacrifices ensured India’s victory in the Kargil War.
