KATHUA: Police have arrested two interstate drug suppliers and established their backward linkages in connection with a narcotics smuggling case in Kathua district, taking the total recovery of heroin-like substance in the case to 515 grams, officials said on Thursday.
The case was registered at Police Station Billawar, where police had earlier recovered 435 grams of heroin-like substance during the course of investigation.
Following the initial recovery, police launched a covert operation to trace and apprehend individuals allegedly involved in the backward linkages of the drug supply network. Searches were conducted at multiple locations in Kathua and adjoining areas as well as in Punjab, with investigators relying on technical inputs and human intelligence to identify the suspects.
During the operation, police apprehended Abinash Kumar, a resident of Kathua, and recovered 53 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession, officials said.
During questioning, Kumar allegedly disclosed the involvement of another person identified as Jagmohan Singh of Amritsar. Acting on the information, the police team subsequently apprehended Singh and recovered another 27 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
Both accused have been arrested as part of the ongoing backward-linkage investigation into the interstate narcotics supply network.
With the latest recovery of 80 grams, the total quantity of heroin-like substance seized in the case has reached 515 grams, marking a significant development in the investigation into the drug trafficking network operating across Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring areas.
