KATRA: District Police Reasi on Friday said it apprehended two alleged drug peddlers and recovered 7.51 grams of heroin (Chitta) during naka checking at Balini, Katra.
Police said the two men were intercepted on September 3 while approaching the checkpoint on foot. During their personal search, heroin concealed in their trouser pockets was recovered.
The accused were identified as Vishal Sharma, son of Romesh Chander, resident of Bilaspur, Tehsil Majalta, District Udhampur, from whose possession 3.11 grams of heroin was recovered, and Rinku Sharma, son of Bodh Raj, resident of Gharian Dhana, Tehsil Chenani, District Udhampur, from whom 4.40 grams of heroin concealed in a polythene pouch was recovered.
Police said both accused failed to provide any valid explanation for possession of the contraband.
Accordingly, FIR No. 281/2026 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source, supply chain and forward and backward linkages of the recovered narcotic substance.
Reasi Police reiterated its zero-tolerance approach against drug trafficking and substance abuse and said action against narcotics networks would continue.
