JAMMU: Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal, PRO (Defence), Jammu, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on September 20 and presented him a commemorative memento marking 75 years of the Public Relations Unit, Ministry of Defence, Jammu.
During the interaction, the Lieutenant Governor was briefed on the Unit’s longstanding role in defence media publicity, strategic communication and outreach.
Established on July 1, 1950, PRO Jammu is the oldest unit of the Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence. Over the past seven and a half decades, the Unit has remained at the forefront of defence communication and media outreach, documenting and facilitating publicity during several defining chapters of the nation’s history, including the 1962 Indo-China War, the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak Wars and the 1999 Kargil Conflict.
The Unit continues to provide comprehensive media publicity support to the Defence Forces across Northern Command and designated areas of Western Command, covering the LoC, International Border and counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism environments across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
