SRINAGAR: A Pakistani terrorist was killed in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Buchhar in the Uri sector of north Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.
According to the Indian Army, the operation was launched on the intervening night of March 14–15 following specific intelligence inputs from the Jammu and Kashmir Police about a possible infiltration attempt.
Troops deployed in the area spotted suspicious movement in a thicket and readjusted their ambush positions. When challenged, the terrorist opened indiscriminate fire, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, the infiltrating terrorist was neutralised.
Security forces recovered warlike stores from the site, including an AK rifle, pistols and a large quantity of ammunition. The Army said follow-up operations are still underway in the area to rule out the presence of additional terrorists.
Earlier, on March 10, alert troops had foiled another infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir. One Pakistan-sponsored terrorist was killed during the operation.
According to the Army’s White Knight Corps, the movement of two terrorists was detected in the Jhangar area of Nowshera along the LoC around 3 pm after intelligence agencies shared credible inputs.
Acting swiftly on the information, troops launched a calibrated response to prevent the infiltration attempt, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist.
