JAMMU: Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has taken another step towards enhancing freight efficiency with the inauguration of a new goods shed at Chhan Arorian Railway Station on the Jammu–Kathua section.
The facility has been developed to handle both inward and outward freight traffic, aiming to facilitate smoother loading and unloading processes for traders while increasing the overall movement capacity of freight trains.
Designed with modern operational requirements in mind, the goods shed will function for 16 hours daily—from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM—significantly boosting the station’s freight handling potential. Special guidelines have been issued to ensure designated space and streamlined management for specific categories of goods.
To review the functioning and preparedness of the newly opened shed, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vivek Kumar, along with Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal and Senior Divisional Engineer Shubham Pawar, inspected the facility on 09 December. The team assessed infrastructure, security systems, and freight handling mechanisms, while the DRM also monitored loading and unloading operations and issued necessary instructions to staff for maintaining efficiency and safety.
Calling it a milestone for the division, DRM Vivek Kumar said, “This new goods shed will play a crucial role in the freight sector, providing a modern platform for goods movement. It will expedite loading and unloading, ensure timely delivery, and open new avenues for commercial growth and employment in the region.” He added that the development strengthens Jammu Division’s position as an emerging logistics hub.
The new facility is expected to boost commercial activity, benefit local traders, and contribute to regional economic growth.
