BANIHAL: In a major step towards improving electricity supply in the Banihal-Gool constituency, MLA Banihal Sajjad Shaheen on Thursday inaugurated the augmented Receiving Station at Banihal, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.25 crore under UT Capex.
The capacity of the Receiving Station has been enhanced from 6.3 MVA to 10.6 MVA.
Shaheen said the augmentation would provide much-needed additional capacity and help reduce overloading, particularly during the winter months when electricity demand rises sharply.
He said the focus was not limited to Banihal alone and that a broader plan was being implemented to strengthen the power distribution network across the constituency.
The MLA informed that the Receiving Station at Sangaldan had already been augmented from 3.15 MVA to 6.3 MVA, while work on enhancing the Khari Receiving Station from 3.15 MVA to 6.3 MVA was in progress and would be completed shortly.
He further said an additional 50 MVA transformer at Grid Station Tethar would also be installed soon, further improving the capacity and reliability of electricity supply in the area.
“People have been facing the problem of overloaded receiving stations for a long time. We are working to address this issue in a systematic manner so that the power infrastructure keeps pace with the growing requirements of our people,” Shaheen said.
He said new Receiving Stations were also planned at Chamalwas, Neel, Kaskoot and Kawna to strengthen the distribution network in these areas.
According to Shaheen, the new infrastructure would particularly help reduce power disruptions caused by snapping of long transmission lines during heavy snowfall and harsh winter conditions.
He said the combined impact of these projects would significantly improve the power scenario across the Banihal-Gool constituency and provide consumers with a more stable and reliable electricity supply.
Shaheen also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his support to development initiatives being undertaken in Banihal and said the Chief Minister’s backing had been instrumental in advancing key infrastructure projects in the constituency.
