JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Friday inaugurated a newly constructed badminton court at Pata Paloura on Akhnoor Road, providing a dedicated sports facility for local residents and youth in Ward No. 61.
The facility was inaugurated by Sham Lal Sharma, MLA Jammu North, in the presence of JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav.
Developed by the JMC beneath the flyover opposite BSF School, the facility is aimed at encouraging greater participation of young people in sports and other healthy recreational activities. CCTV cameras will also be installed at the site for safety and security.
The JMC said the initiative forms part of its efforts to develop public spaces and community facilities that promote a healthier and more active urban environment.
The site had earlier witnessed a plantation drive under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), while a green walkway has also been developed beneath the flyover under the same initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sham Lal Sharma appreciated the JMC for developing the sports facility and stressed the importance of accessible sporting infrastructure in residential areas.
Dr Devansh Yadav said similar initiatives would be undertaken at suitable locations across Jammu to encourage community participation and promote healthy lifestyles.
Residents were urged to take ownership of the facility, maintain cleanliness and protect the plants and greenery around the site.
