JAMMU: More than 1.60 lakh voters have been added to the electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir during the recent Special Summary Revision (SSR) exercise, while 67,690 names were deleted and 2.29 lakh entries were corrected, according to official data.
The figures revealed that Jammu district recorded the highest number of deletions, including duplicate and shifted entries, during the annual revision process.
District-wise data showed that Jammu district currently has the highest number of electors at 11,89,555, followed by Srinagar district with 7,53,222 voters and Baramulla district with 7,20,500 voters.
In terms of new enrolments, Srinagar district recorded the highest number of additions at 30,077, followed by Jammu with 16,855 and Baramulla with 11,854.
For deletions, Jammu district topped the list with 10,430 names removed, followed by Budgam district with 7,762 and Anantnag district with 5,241.
Overall, the revision exercise across the Union Territory resulted in 1,60,974 additions, 67,690 deletions and 2,29,920 corrections in the electoral rolls.
Among the deleted entries, 10,639 were duplicate registrations, while 34,675 were removed due to voters shifting residence. Jammu district reported the highest number of shifted entries at 6,840, followed by Rajouri district with 4,791 and Anantnag with 3,745.
Following these updates, the total electorate in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 87,42,878 voters, including 44,65,161 male voters, 42,77,568 female voters, and 149 third-gender voters.
Officials said that several initiatives are being implemented to ensure 100 percent voter enrolment, particularly among under-represented groups. The Special Summary Revision is conducted under the Representation of the People Act, which now allows four qualifying dates for voter registration each year — January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
Authorities are also carrying out awareness activities under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme to encourage greater voter participation across the Union Territory.
As part of the campaign, election officials have conducted extensive awareness drives through short videos, SMS alerts in English, Hindi and Urdu, newspaper advertisements, radio messages and television scrolls broadcast through Doordarshan stations in Jammu and Srinagar.
At the district level, outreach initiatives such as door-to-door visits by Booth Level Officers, electoral literacy clubs in schools and colleges, and “Chunav Pathshalas” at polling stations have also been organised to familiarise citizens with the electoral process and voting procedures.
