NEW DELHI: Jammu & Kashmir scripted history on Tuesday by defeating Delhi for the first time in Ranji Trophy history, clinching a seven-wicket win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
This was J&K’s second outright win of the season, pushing them to second place in the Elite Group D points table, just behind Mumbai.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Auqib Nabi led the attack with an impressive 5/35, while Vanshaj Sharma (2/57) and Abid Mushtaq (2/30) restricted Delhi to 211 in their first innings.
J&K also suffered early setbacks, but skipper Paras Dogra (106 off 183), Abdul Samad (85 off 115) and Kanhaiya Wadhawan (47 off 81) ensured a strong reply as the visitors posted 310, taking a 91-run lead.
Delhi regained control at 267/5 in their second innings with captain Ayush Badoni (72) and Ayush Doseja (62), but a dramatic collapse saw them lose their last five wickets for just 10 runs, folding for 277.
Left-arm spinner Vanshaj Sharma was the star of the innings, claiming 6/68 — his third five-wicket haul in just his fourth first-class match — to set a target of 179.
Resuming at 55/2 on Day 4, Qamran Iqbal played a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 133 — his career-best — to seal J&K’s historic win in their 43rd Ranji meeting with Delhi.
