UDHAMPUR: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in a remote forest area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.
The gunfight erupted during an ongoing search operation being jointly conducted by the Army and police in the Jaffer forest area of Ramnagar in the hilly district.
Officials said the operation was launched early Monday following specific inputs about the movement of two to three terrorists in the area. The suspected terrorists are believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit.
Intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides was continuing when last reports came in.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties on either side, officials added.
