AHMEDABAD: Dr. Sudhaa Sharma, Senior Gynaecologist and Managing Committee Member of the PCOS Society of India, was invited as a Faculty Speaker at the International Conference of the PCOS Society of India, held in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, USA, from October 10 to 12, 2025, in Ahmedabad.
Dr. Sudhaa served as one of the Convenors of the Workshop on Female Sexual Disorders alongside Dr. Sara Shihab (Internist, Mayo Clinic, USA) and Dr. Sandhya Saharan (Gynaecologist, Mumbai). She also moderated a panel discussion and participated as an expert panelist in another session during the three-day event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sudhaa highlighted that Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) affects nearly 30–50% of women, impacting their self-esteem, confidence, mental health, and relationships, and in some cases leading to unconsummated marriages or divorce.
“People often don’t open up about these issues. Only through careful history-taking can underlying problems be identified,” she emphasized.
Adding perspective, Dr. Suneela Vegunta (Internist, Mayo Clinic, USA) noted that even in the United States, discussions on sexual health remain limited, underscoring the universal need for greater awareness.
Dr. Sudhaa stressed the importance of sex education—in schools, at home, and for women dealing with PCOS, peri-menopause, and post-menopause—to address these often-overlooked issues.
“One should open up, discuss with their partner or trusted person, and consult the right doctor for guidance and treatment if required,” she advised.
