BUDGAM: In accordance with the Calendar of Activities for the month of July 2026, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam today organized a Special Lok Adalat for cases arising under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
The Special Lok Adalat was organized under the supervision of O.P. Bhagat, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Budgam, and under the guidance of Tabassum Qadir Parray, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Budgam.
To facilitate the effective disposal of cases, Five benches were constituted including a Special Bench, each comprising of a Presiding Officer and a Member.
Special Bench which was presided over by the Chairman, DLSA Budgam and Chief LADC Budgam, Lateef Ahmad Khan, as a member.
Likewise, first bench was presided over by Abdul Bari, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam, with Tasneem Kawoos, Munsiff/JMIC, Budgam, as a member. Second bench was presided over by Shafeeq Ahmad Malik, Sub-Judge, Chadoora, with Syed Raafiq Rashid, Panel Lawyer, TLSC Chadoora, as a member.
Similarly, third bench was presided over by Rabyia Snober Gulzar, Munsiff/JMIC, Magam, with Hilal Ahmad Malla, Panel Lawyer, TLSC Magam, as a member. Fourth bench was presided over by Aiman Amin, Munsiff/JMIC, Charar-i-Sharief, with Reyaz Ahmad, Panel Lawyer, TLSC Charar-i-Sharief, as a member.
The Special Lok Adalat took up for settlement a widerange of matters relating to the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, including cheque bounce cases, bank recovery mattersand pre-litigation disputes as well. Through the process of amicable conciliation and settlement, the Lok Adalat provided litigants with an expeditious, cost-effective, and mutually acceptable mechanism for resolving their disputes.
A total of 235 cases were placed before the four benches, out of which 29 cases were amicably settled. An amount of ₹6839250 was awarded towards settlement, compensation, and recovery during the proceedings.
DLSA, Budgam, reiterated its commitment to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and ensuring easy, affordable, and timely access to justice. The successful conduct of the Special Lok Adalat reflects the continued efforts of the District Legal Services Authority Budgam in reducing litigation, fostering amicable settlements, and strengthening public confidence in the justice delivery system.
