KATRA: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, District Police Reasi apprehended a man and recovered contraband substance during routine naka checking at Nangal area of Katra.
Officials said that a Flying Squad of District Police Reasi had set up a routine naka at Nangal, Katra. At around 6:40 pm, a vehicle bearing registration number JK02BH-2524, travelling from Jammu towards Katra, attempted to evade the naka by suddenly making a U-turn and fleeing the spot.
However, the alert naka party acted swiftly and intercepted the vehicle. During questioning, the driver identified himself as Balvinder Kumar, son of Dev Raj, a resident of Ghagwal, Samba district.
A thorough search of the vehicle and personal search of the accused led to the recovery of three small polythene packets containing a heroin-like substance from the left pocket of his blue jeans. The recovered contraband weighed 4.750 grams.
The accused failed to give any satisfactory explanation regarding possession of the contraband.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 45/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out by SHO Police Station Katra Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS, and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS.
Meanwhile, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh, JKPS reiterated the commitment of District Police Reasi to eradicate the menace of drugs from society and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking.
