SRINAGAR: Omar Abdullah on Wednesday met religious leaders and members of civil society in Srinagar to discuss the situation in West Asia following the reported killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US–Israel airstrike.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the participants expressed deep concern over recent developments and conveyed condolences for the lives lost in Iran. A ‘Fatiha’ (special prayer) was also offered for the late leader and others who died in the strikes.
During the interaction, Abdullah stressed the need to preserve peace and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir. While acknowledging the public’s grief, he urged that any expressions of mourning remain peaceful and responsible.
Officials said the gathering concluded with prayers for regional stability and hope for de-escalation amid rising tensions. The administration is also understood to be in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs regarding related developments.
