NEW DELHI: As the ongoing conflict in West Asia continues to put pressure on global fuel supplies, the Union Government on Tuesday invoked the Essential Commodities Act (EC Act) to ensure uninterrupted supply of domestic cooking gas. The move includes directing refineries and petrochemical units to maximise production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and divert key hydrocarbon streams to the LPG pool. According to official orders, Showkat Ahmad Zargar, son of Nazir Ahmad Zargar and a resident of Iqbal Mohalla Bijbehara in Anantnag district, who was working as a Daily Rated Wager (DRW) in Bijbehara, has been disengaged from service with immediate effect. NEW DELHI: The Income-Tax Department has detected under-reporting of sales worth ₹408 crore following a nationwide survey of restaurants on suspicion of tax evasion, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said on Monday. The tax authorities conducted surveys at the business premises of 62 restaurants across 46 cities in 22 states on Sunday as part of the operation. Preliminary findings from the exercise revealed suppression of sales amounting to approximately ₹408 crore, the CBDT said in a statement, adding that further investigation into the matter is currently underway. NEW DELHI: The government has increased the booking gap for LPG cylinders from 21 days to 25 days in a bid to curb hoarding and black marketing, government sources said on Monday. According to the sources, the decision was taken after authorities noticed that some consumers had started booking cylinders much earlier than usual. “There were instances where people who earlier booked LPG cylinders after around 55 days had begun booking them within 15 days,” the sources said.
