JAMMU: In a landmark initiative to reverse medical brain drain and address the shortage of specialist healthcare professionals, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu has extended a formal invitation to medical experts from the global diaspora — particularly those with roots in Jammu & Kashmir — to contribute to the fast-growing institution’s academic, clinical, and research initiatives.
In an official communication, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, urged overseas doctors to collaborate with AIIMS Jammu during its rapid phase of expansion. He said the institute, now in its second year of operational excellence, is emerging as a leading centre for medical education, innovation and patient-centric services in India.
Highlighting the institute’s recent achievements, Prof. Gupta said AIIMS Jammu has developed strong collaborative networks with IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu, and University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), USA — enhancing global research partnerships, translation of innovation, and advanced academic exchange.
To improve patient care and accessibility, AIIMS Jammu has rolled out multiple digital health initiatives including an Indoor Navigation App, Patient Care Coordinators, Rogi Sahayak Mitras and increased use of AI in diagnosis and clinical decision support. The institute also continues to expand outreach through remote-area OPDs, health camps, telemedicine services and community awareness programmes.
Cutting-edge facilities such as the Centre for Advanced Genomics & Precision Medicine are enabling pioneering research in precision oncology and genetics with support from ICMR, SERB and NAMS. Newly launched cancer care services including Radiation Oncology and Chemotherapy Day Care are significantly reducing treatment-related travel burdens for patients in J&K.
Recognised as a “Pain-Free AIIMS” by the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, the institute is further advancing infrastructure through Total Laboratory Automation (TLA), sustainable dry-slide biochemistry platforms and a state-of-the-art Digital Library.
Prof. Gupta said the contributions of diaspora professionals could be transformative across teaching, research, mentorship and advanced patient care.

To encourage participation, AIIMS Jammu has announced a token honorarium of ₹5,000 per day, along with free accommodation and travel facilities for visiting diaspora clinicians.
Welcoming the initiative, eminent neurosurgeon Prof. K. Ganapathy, Past President — Neurological Society of India and PP — Telemedicine Society of India, said the visit of overseas alumni and senior specialists could make a profound impact on the institute’s growth.
Praising the faculty, technology integration and world-class infrastructure at AIIMS Jammu during his recent visit, Prof. Ganapathy said:
“Excellence in medical education is driven by advanced infrastructure and innovation. AIIMS Jammu has set benchmarks in both. The greatest need today is skilled human resources — and diaspora specialists can bridge this gap in a meaningful way.”
Encouraging clinicians abroad to explore the opportunity, he remarked,

Prof. Ganapathy added that he would recommend this initiative to colleagues across the UK, US and other countries for collaborative participation.
