JAMMU: All India Institute of Medical Sciences Jammu organized its Second Temporal Bone Dissection Conference on April 25–26 at AIIMS Vijaypur Jammu, witnessing participation from delegates across the country and reinforcing its role in advanced surgical training.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof D N Sharma, Executive Director and CEO, who highlighted the importance of skill-based academic initiatives in enhancing surgical expertise and improving patient care outcomes. Prof Meeta Gupta, Dean Academics and Medical Superintendent Additional Charge, emphasized the role of interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous medical education in strengthening healthcare delivery.
The event was conducted under the course directorship of Dr Darwin Kaushal, Additional Professor Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Surgery, along with Dr Amardeep Singh, Associate Professor, who led the scientific program. The workshop was jointly coordinated by the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology and Anatomy, with key academic support from Dr Shalika Sharma, Additional Professor Department of Anatomy.
The conference focused on the growing clinical need for trained otologic surgeons amid increasing cases of ear diseases, particularly Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media. Experts noted that temporal bone dissection workshops are essential for developing surgical precision, anatomical understanding, and confidence before performing live procedures.
The scientific program included expert lectures, live surgical demonstrations, and cadaveric dissection sessions covering temporal bone anatomy, mastoid surgery, cochlear implant techniques, facial nerve anatomy, and advanced otologic procedures. Faculty from All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bilaspur, and Government Medical College Jammu participated as invited experts.
Dr Darwin Kaushal stated that the conference aimed to provide comprehensive exposure to advanced surgical approaches while strengthening academic collaboration among leading institutions. The event saw participation from faculty members, residents, and practicing ENT surgeons from across India.
AIIMS Jammu stated that such initiatives contribute directly to safer surgeries, improved treatment outcomes, and better patient care, particularly for those suffering from chronic ear diseases. The institute reaffirmed its commitment to advancing surgical education, innovation, and research, further establishing itself as a center of excellence in the field of otorhinolaryngology.
