JAMMU: AIIMS Jammu on Thursday carried out a large-scale Emergency Preparedness Mock Drill in collaboration with the 13 Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), showcasing the institute’s expanding capability to manage high-pressure disaster scenarios with accuracy and coordination.
The exercise simulated a complex mass-casualty situation within the hospital premises and involved active participation from clinical, administrative, and security teams.
A specialised rescue unit from the 13 BN NDRF, led by Deputy Commandant Praveen Singh Charak, executed high-intensity disaster response operations including structural evacuation, victim stabilisation, rapid triage, crowd management, and safe transfer of casualties to designated medical zones.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, commended the professionalism of NDRF personnel and the dedication of the hospital staff.
“AIIMS Jammu is a national institution with a critical responsibility. Emergency readiness is central to our mission. Drills like these test our systems under real-world pressure and ensure that our teams respond with speed, accuracy and coordination. This joint exercise with NDRF enhances our institutional confidence and preparedness,” he said.
The drill was meticulously coordinated by Col. Sanjay Garg, Deputy Director Administration, who oversaw logistical and administrative arrangements. Wg Cdr Dheeraj Jamwal (Retd.), Deputy Chief Security Officer, ensured seamless communication, resource mobilisation and inter-departmental coordination throughout the operation.
Doctors, nurses, residents, paramedical teams, security personnel, engineering staff and administrative officials participated in the drill, demonstrating strong institutional unity. Media teams also covered the exercise, underscoring AIIMS Jammu’s proactive stance on crisis management and public safety.
The exercise reaffirmed AIIMS Jammu’s commitment to world-class disaster preparedness and strengthened collaboration with national emergency response agencies. Through regular training, mock drills and inter-agency coordination, the institute continues to prioritise patient safety and institutional readiness, solidifying its role as a resilient and dependable healthcare institution for the region.
