LEH: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh organised a farewell ceremony in honour of outgoing Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta, who will soon assume charge as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including Mukesh Singh, Hitesh Bhalla, Principal District and Sessions Judge Leh Spalzes Angmo and Commissioner/Secretary to the Lt Governor L Franklin, besides senior officers from the Army, Border Roads Organisation, Police and UT Administration.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta expressed gratitude to the people and officials of Ladakh for their cooperation and support during his tenure. He said Ladakh would always remain close to his heart and that he would cherish the memories of working in the region.
Reflecting on his tenure, he highlighted the importance of teamwork and coordinated efforts in achieving developmental goals. Gupta also noted that he travelled nearly 10,000 kilometres across the region to understand the concerns of people in remote areas.
He emphasised initiatives taken during his tenure to promote renewable energy, strengthen healthcare, education and power connectivity, and protect Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem. He also mentioned that several Memoranda of Understanding were signed with educational institutions to expand opportunities for students from the Union Territory.
On the occasion, the Lt Governor released the second edition of the Sindhu Darshan magazine, highlighting Ladakh’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Speaking at the event, DGP Mukesh Singh praised Gupta’s commitment to public service and noted that his leadership had earlier seen him serve as Mayor of Jammu, Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Various organisations and departments felicitated Gupta during the ceremony, which also featured cultural performances by local artists. The event concluded with warm wishes for his success in his new role as Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
