JAMMU: A delegation of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Jammu Chapter, led by Chairman Rahul Sahai, met the Convenor of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Languages, Ujjwal Raman Singh, along with MPs Anil Sukhdevrao Bonde and Kuldeep Indora, and Manoj Kumar, Hindi Adhikari, Ministry of Home Affairs, during their visit to Jammu.
The Parliamentary Committee functions under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
During the meeting, the ICC delegation submitted a detailed representation advocating stronger promotion of Hindi/Dogri in Jammu and Kashmir. Rahul Sahai highlighted ICC’s legacy as a century-old industry body committed to economic as well as socio-cultural development, stressing that language plays a vital role in inclusive governance and national integration.
The delegation proposed that land records and key public documents such as registration certificates and mark sheets be issued in Hindi/Dogri alongside Urdu and English to improve accessibility. It also recommended establishing dedicated University Chairs for Hindi/Dogri in major universities of J&K with enhanced UGC funding support.
ICC further sought structured financial assistance for Hindi/Dogri NGOs, literary clubs and cultural organisations, urging the J&K Culture Department to earmark specific funds for language promotion. The delegation called for wider celebration of Hindi Diwas, institutional support for Kavi Sammelans, and increased Hindi/Dogri programming on Doordarshan, regional channels and private FM radio.
Additionally, ICC suggested that public sector undertakings such as FCI, NHAI and J&K Bank allocate part of their CSR funds towards promoting Hindi/Dogri language and literature.
Reaffirming ICC’s commitment, Rahul Sahai said sustained efforts to strengthen Hindi/Dogri would reinforce cultural identity, enhance administrative inclusiveness and deepen citizen engagement across Jammu & Kashmir.
In the ICC delegation, executive members present included Ashish Jain, Raj Dua, Ashish Gupta, Anil Sharma, Kuldeep Gupta and Viplove Mahajan.
