JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued the provisional selection list for the appointment of outstanding sportspersons to government services under the J&K (Appointment of Outstanding Sportspersons) Rules, 2022, read with the amended provisions notified in 2023.
According to a notification issued by the Youth Services & Sports Department, the provisional list includes 05 posts of Chief Coach in the Gazetted cadre for the year 2022 and 217 posts of Instructor in the Non-Gazetted cadre for calendar years 2014 to 2022.
The selection process was carried out in accordance with S.O. 12 of 2022 and S.O. 412 of 2023. Applications were initially invited in January 2022 for the sports quota covering calendar years 2014 to 2021, followed by a revised advertisement in October 2023 after amendments to the rules.
A Scrutiny Committee, constituted by the General Administration Department vide Government Order No. 1247-JK(GAD) of 2023, examined the applications and prepared a general merit list strictly on the basis of sports achievements and points prescribed under the rules. The merit list was placed before the Selection Committee, which ratified the provisional selection in its meeting held on October 7, 2024.
The department had earlier published a year-wise general merit list in July 2024, inviting objections from candidates. After examining and disposing of the objections received, the final provisional selection list was approved by the competent authority.
As per the notification, seven posts have been kept reserved as per directions of the Central Administrative Tribunal, while one post has been reserved for grant of upper-age relaxation. The government has clarified that the selection is purely provisional and subject to verification of documents as well as the outcome of any pending writ petitions before competent courts.
Candidates, if aggrieved, may submit objections within seven days of issuance of the notification through email to the Youth Services & Sports Department. No claims will be entertained after the stipulated period.
The final appointment orders shall be issued only after disposal of objections, if any, and completion of all procedural formalities.
