JAMMU Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday directed the Jammu and Kashmir Police to take firm and decisive action against terrorism and urged greater cooperation with all sections of society to completely dismantle the terror network.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament at KK Hakku Hockey Stadium, the Lieutenant Governor said the force’s unwavering resolve sends a powerful message to the nation. “Adversity will not break our spirit. We will overcome every challenge and achieve new milestones,” he asserted.
The tournament, being organised after a gap of over a decade, will see participation from 14 teams this year.
Paying rich tributes to the police martyrs, the Lieutenant Governor said the brave personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation placed national honour above everything else and must always be remembered. He said true tributes to martyrs remain alive through the values they pass on to future generations.
“Our police martyrs embodied duty and self-sacrifice. It is our responsibility to carry forward those values and build strong character among the youth,” he said.
Manoj Sinha also lauded the J&K Police for empowering youth through its Civic Action Programme, describing it as more than a government initiative. “It reflects a mindset where peace is built through trust, relationships and community participation,” he said.
Calling for a united fight against drug abuse, the Lieutenant Governor reaffirmed the commitment to a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the tournament symbolises this resolve. He further reiterated the UT administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for youth, nurturing talent, and providing direction and resources to realise their aspirations.
The event was attended by DGP J&K Nalin Prabhat, Special DG (Coordination) S.J.M Gillani, Commandant General Home Guards, Civil Defence & SDRF J&K Abdul Ghani Mir, ADGP Armed Police Anand Jain, senior police and civil administration officials, members of hockey associations and eminent sports personalities.
