JAMMU: A special function was organised at the Jammu Writers Club, Abhinav Theatre Complex, here to release Column & Discourse, the second book by noted media and communication professional, author and heritage enthusiast Dr. Satwant Singh Rissam.
The book was released by Chief Guest Prof. R. D. Sharma, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu. Guest of Honour on the occasion was B. R. Kundal, IAS (Retd.), former Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, while Rohit Kapoor, Senior Advocate and former Judicial Member, National Company Law Tribunal, Kolkata, attended as Distinguished Guest. Sanjeev Pargal, President of the Press Club of Jammu, and Mohit Kandhari, Bureau Head, The Pioneer, were present as special guests.
Column & Discourse is a compilation of Dr. Rissam’s published newspaper columns written between 2022 and 2025, reflecting his perspectives on society, governance, culture and public life.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. R. D. Sharma described the book as a thoughtful contribution to contemporary public discourse that reflects ground realities and helps bridge the gap between policymakers and the wider community. Former Chief Secretary B. R. Kundal said the writings capture significant events and administrative challenges in a language accessible to ordinary citizens, terming the publication timely and commendable.
Rohit Kapoor appreciated the nuanced manner in which Dr. Rissam raises legal, constitutional and civic issues, expressing hope that the book would encourage readers to engage more deeply with questions of democracy, governance and rights.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Satwant Rissam said Column & Discourse brings together years of reflections on society, governance and culture, with the aim of encouraging informed and meaningful conversations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Several prominent members of civil society attended the event. Advocate Akshey Gupta conducted the proceedings, while the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Sandeep Singh.
