KATRA: District Police Reasi have registered a case for violation of mandatory tenant verification norms in the Katra area after receiving credible information about unauthorised tenancy.
Police said that on January 5, information was received regarding Ward No. 12, House No. 25, Tehsil Katra, where one individual, identified as Divya Kumar alias Mintu, son of Hukam Chand, had allegedly allowed jhuggi dwellers to occupy his plot. Eight jhuggis were constructed on the land, housing several persons originally from West Bengal and Punjab who have reportedly been residing there for the past 7–8 years.
During verification, it was found that the landlord had failed to submit the mandatory particulars of the tenants for police verification, as required under the prescribed norms. The omission constitutes an offence punishable under Section 223(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Accordingly, FIR No. 07/2026 under Section 223(a) BNS has been registered at Police Station Katra, and further investigation is underway.
The action was carried out by SHO Police Station Katra Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS, and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS.
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh, JKPS, reiterated the police department’s firm commitment to maintaining law and order and enforcing tenant verification norms, terming them essential for public safety and security.
Police have once again urged landlords and property owners to strictly comply with tenant verification procedures and cooperate with authorities to prevent misuse of residential premises.
