JAMMU: District Police Jammu achieved significant milestones in its sustained fight against the drug menace during the year 2025, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics through focused enforcement, intelligence-led operations, financial investigations, and strong community participation.
During the year, 204 FIRs were registered under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 311 accused, including 35 women drug peddlers. Police also seized 71 vehicles used in narcotics trafficking. Of the total arrests, 207 accused were apprehended in heroin (chitta) cases, while 51 arrests were linked to non-chitta narcotics cases.
Massive Drug Recoveries
Recoveries during 2025 included:
- Over 15 kg of heroin, valued at approximately ₹60 crore in the international market
- 78 kg ganja
- 114 kg poppy straw
- Capsules and opium in significant quantities
Notably, 11 commercial quantity NDPS cases were detected, resulting in the arrest of 38 accused, reflecting intensified action against organised drug trafficking networks. Additionally, 11 hardcore drug peddlers were detained under the stringent PIT NDPS Act, underscoring firm action against habitual offenders.
Financial Crackdown & Demolition Drive
To dismantle the financial backbone of drug syndicates, Jammu Police:
- Attached three immovable properties worth ₹85,70,285
- Seized one movable property (vehicle) worth ₹11,40,000, identified as proceeds of narcotics
- Demolished three identified drug hotspots
- 23 illegal drug-linked structures were razed during 2025
Convictions & Supply Chain Busting
During the year, 48 convictions were secured in NDPS cases.
Supply-chain investigations led to the registration of 12 FIRs and 36 arrests across Jammu, Punjab, Kathua, Udhampur, and Rajouri, supported by strong administrative and financial investigation mechanisms.
Destruction of Seized Narcotics
Large-scale destruction of seized narcotics was conducted under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act. Contraband seized in 82 cases was destroyed, including:
- Poppy Straw: 5,293 kg 204 g
- Cannabis: 49 kg 175 g
- Charas: 44 kg 387 g
- Ganja: 4 kg 90 g
- Heroin: 1 kg 406 g
- Brown Sugar: 1 kg
- Capsules: 38,480
- Corex bottles: 660
- Tablets: 6,020
The destroyed contraband was worth several crores of rupees.
Focus on Awareness & Rehabilitation
Alongside enforcement, Jammu Police laid strong emphasis on drug awareness and rehabilitation. During 2025, the following initiatives were conducted:
- 27 drug awareness programmes
- 325 PCPG meetings
- 179 Thana Diwas
- 469 IEC campaigns
- 09 awareness programmes by the Police Drug De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centre, Channi, Jammu
The Police Drug De-addiction, Rehabilitation and Mental Health Care Centre, Channi, catered to 1,667 OPD patients and admitted 311 patients during the year.
Public Appeal
Jammu Police has appealed to the general public to actively support the War on Drugs by sharing any information related to drug peddling or abuse on helpline number 100. The identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential.
