KATRA: Continuing its drive against narcotics and to ensure the safety of pilgrims visiting the holy town of Katra, District Police Reasi achieved a major success by arresting a drug peddler and recovering a heroin-like substance during routine naka checking.
Officials said that on the intervening night of December 28 and 29, Police Station Katra had established a naka at Searli, keeping in view the heavy influx of yatris. During checking of vehicles and pedestrians, a Swift Dzire car (JK20C-5483) travelling from Udhampur to Katra was intercepted.
During the search, police recovered 3.320 grams of heroin (chitta)-like substance from the possession of the driver, identified as Beeru, son of Suram Chand, resident of Thaplar, Tehsil Ramnagar, District Udhampur. The contraband was recovered from the left front pocket of his trousers.
A case FIR No. 346/2025 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra. The accused has been arrested and lodged in police lock-up, while further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages.
The operation was carried out by SHO Police Station Katra Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS, and SP Katra Vipin Chandran, JKPS.
Meanwhile, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh, JKPS, reiterated the police department’s commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the holy town of Katra and appealed to the public to cooperate with police in keeping the area drug-free.
