JAMMU: A young Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) public prosecutor who was critically injured in a road accident near Banihal on Thursday succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Friday morning, triggering widespread grief across the legal fraternity and his native area.
Official sources said the accident occurred at around 3 pm on Thursday when an Alto car, driven by Advocate Sheikh Adil Nabi (35), was travelling from Banihal towards Kashmir. Sheikh Adil, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh and a resident of Bijbehara in Anantnag district, was recently appointed as a Public Prosecutor with the CBI in Chandigarh after clearing the UPSC examination.
When the vehicle reached near the railway crossing at Banihal, it was hit by a Scorpio bearing registration number JK01BB-2625, sources said.
Sheikh Adil sustained critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where he was given first aid. He was later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and subsequently shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment.
Despite sustained medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning.
The untimely death of the young prosecutor has cast a pall of gloom over the legal community and his hometown, with colleagues and residents expressing shock and sorrow over the loss.
