JAMMU: In a bid to enhance passenger convenience, ensure safe travel and curb ticket fraud, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway conducted a special campaign against fake UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) tickets from December 15 to December 21, officials said.
The drive was carried out under the leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr DCM) Shri Uchit Singhal, with dedicated teams deployed at all railway stations across the division. The initiative aimed to curb the circulation of fake railway tickets generated through misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to educate passengers about travelling with valid and authentic tickets.
The campaign was launched following the detection of an AI-generated fake ticket case in the Jaipur Division of North Western Railway. During the week-long drive in Jammu Division, over 2,200 UTS tickets were checked using unique ID verification and QR code scanning.
Officials detected four cases of fake AI-generated UTS tickets, and appropriate penalties were imposed on the offenders.
Commenting on the campaign, Sr DCM Shri Uchit Singhal said,
“This initiative has been taken to prevent digital fraud and ensure a uniform and safe travel experience for passengers. It also helps curb the activities of unauthorized ticket agents misusing modern technology. Similar drives will continue in the future.”
The railway administration has warned passengers against tampering with tickets using AI or any other digital means, stating that such acts are punishable under railway rules. Passengers have been urged to purchase tickets only through authorized platforms and travel with valid tickets.
