JAMMU: Model Academy, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) Jammu Branch, organised an awareness campaign on Compression Only Life Support (COLS) at its B.C. Road campus to train students and staff in responding to cardiac emergencies.
A team of medical experts from Government Medical Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir conducted the session, including Dr. Anita Vig, Professor & Head, Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, GMC Jammu; Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Professor and President ISA Jammu; Dr. Updesh Kumar, Assistant Professor and General Secretary ISA Jammu Branch; Dr. Mushtaq Wani, Dr. Ankita Atri (GMC Udhampur) and Dr. Sucheta Hans (GMC Kathua).
A group of postgraduate doctors—Dr. Aneesha, Dr. Tarun, Dr. Kritika, Dr. Kamayani, and Dr. Agrima—performed a skit demonstrating how to perform CPR in emergency situations and later guided students through hands-on practice. The interactive demonstration helped participants learn the correct technique and understand how timely chest compressions can save lives.
Explaining the significance of COLS, Dr. Anita Vig said the technique is simple, effective and can be performed by anyone to sustain a victim until medical help arrives. She noted that immediate chest compressions, even without mouth-to-mouth breathing, can double or triple a patient’s chances of survival.
Rupa Gupta, Joint Director, MIER, appreciated the initiative, calling it a powerful example of awareness-based education that builds confidence and life-saving skills.
J.K. Dhiman, Vice-Principal, praised the team for conducting a programme that blended science, awareness and social responsibility.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Prince, who expressed gratitude to the medical team, guests and participants for making the campaign a success.
