KATHUA: The State Taxes Department (Enforcement) Kathua has intensified field enforcement and compliance monitoring across the district during the financial year 2026-27, focusing on verification of goods vehicles, E-Way Bills and other statutory documents under the J&K GST Act, 2017.
The enforcement drive is being carried out by the Enforcement Kathua team under the supervision of Commissioner, State Taxes, J&K, P.K. Bhat and Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Enforcement & Administration), Dhanater Singh, with Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes, Enforcement Kathua, HQ Lakhanpur, Joginder Singh Jasrotia, leading the field operations.
As part of the drive, mobile nakas are being established at strategic locations across the district to monitor the movement of goods and verify compliance with GST provisions. The enforcement teams check E-Way Bills through the E-Way Bill application, tax invoices, delivery challans and other documents accompanying the movement of goods. Vehicles are subjected to checks based on field inputs and risk assessment.
The enforcement exercise primarily focuses on critical compliance gaps, including transportation of goods without valid E-Way Bills or e-invoices, misclassification of goods, quantity mismatches and incorrect declaration of tax rates. Wherever discrepancies are detected, action is taken as per the provisions of the GST Act.
During the current financial year up to September 2026, Enforcement Kathua has verified more than 33 lakh E-Way Bills through the E-Way App and conducted physical verification of nearly 200 vehicles. The teams have realised penalties amounting to ₹1.77 crore during the period, as against ₹1.31 crore realised during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, registering an increase of around 35 per cent.
The sustained enforcement drive is aimed at curbing tax evasion, strengthening voluntary compliance and ensuring effective implementation of GST provisions across the district.
