BANDIPORA: As part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign, a series of community and school-level activities were organised across Bandipora to promote cleanliness, source segregation, responsible waste management and sustainable environmental practices.
The campaign commenced at Ward six, where citizens participated at the household level by cleaning their homes and lighting lamps as a symbolic Sankalp (pledge) towards adopting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable way of life. The activity highlighted the importance of making cleanliness a regular household and community practice rather than a one-time exercise.
An intensive awareness and demonstration drive on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 was also conducted at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Plan, Bandipora, with a special focus on four-way source segregation of waste. Students and faculty members were sensitised about the proper segregation and handling of wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste and the importance of responsible disposal at source.
The programme also promoted the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) approach, encouraging students and community members to donate, reuse and responsibly manage items such as books, school bags and other usable materials, thereby reducing waste generation and promoting a culture of reuse.
As part of the campaign’s educational outreach, a Swachhata Gyan Yatra was organised by Eaglet Public School, Bandipora, from the school premises to the Ekart Service Centre. The exposure activity provided students with an opportunity to understand cleanliness, responsible waste handling and sustainable practices in their surroundings.
An interactive Swachhata and Water Management session was also organised, focusing on rainwater harvesting, water conservation and responsible disposal of wastewater. Participants were encouraged to adopt simple and practical measures for conserving water and preventing water pollution.
Adding a creative dimension to the campaign, a thematic “Waste to Art” competition was held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Plan, Bandipora. Students showcased their creativity by transforming waste and discarded materials into useful and artistic items, conveying the message that waste can be given a new life through creativity, reuse and responsible management.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign will continue to focus on community participation, awareness, source segregation, resource recovery, water conservation and sustainable waste-management practices, with the objective of making cleanliness and environmental responsibility an integral part of everyday life.
