UDHAMPUR: The J&K Pollution Control Committee, Divisional Office Udhampur, observed World Ozone Day 2026 at Indira Memorial Higher Secondary School, with the aim of generating awareness among students about the importance of the ozone layer and the need for its protection.
The programme was organized on the theme “Global Action for a Cooler Planet,” emphasizing the importance of collective efforts, environmental awareness and sustainable practices to protect the ozone layer and contribute towards a healthier and cooler planet.
Divisional Officer, J&K PCC Surinder Tripathi sensitized the students on the significance of the ozone layer, its role in protecting life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation and the need to adopt environmentally responsible practices for its conservation.
He also highlighted the importance of collective action and the active involvement of the younger generation in protecting the environment. The students were encouraged to understand their role in environmental protection and to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
The interactive awareness session followed, which focused on the importance of protecting the ozone layer for present as well as future generations.
As part of the celebrations, a plantation drive was organized within the school premises, during which around 150 saplings were planted. The plantation activity was carried out with the active participation of School Chairman Bhagwan Dass, members of the school staff and students.
Their enthusiastic participation reflected a strong commitment towards environmental conservation, increasing green cover and promoting sustainable development.
