JAMMU: Jammu Police has achieved a major breakthrough in the investigation into the theft of gold ornaments from a residential house at Dhammi Jagti in Nagrota, arresting an accused and recovering the entire stolen property, officials said.
The case pertains to FIR No. 225/2026 registered at Police Station Nagrota under Sections 331(3) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the investigation, a police team conducted a detailed examination of the scene and analysed CCTV footage, tower dump data, witness statements and Call Detail Records (CDRs), besides collecting and examining other technical and circumstantial evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify the persons involved.
Based on the investigation, police identified and arrested the accused as Mohit Singh, son of Prem Singh, a resident of Kukrian Goh Manhasa, Tehsil Marh, Jammu.
During further investigation, and following the disclosure statement of the accused, police recovered the stolen gold ornaments from his residential premises at Goh Manhasa. The jewellery had allegedly been concealed beneath a cow shed, police said.
The recovered property comprises one golden necklace, one golden tikka, one golden nath, two golden bangles, two pairs of golden jhumkas, two golden tops, one male golden ring and one female golden ring. In all, 11 gold ornaments weighing approximately 10 tolas (around 100 grams) were recovered, with an estimated value of ₹15 lakh.
Police said the entire stolen property was recovered and taken into possession through proper seizure proceedings in accordance with law. The recovery, coupled with the technical and other evidence collected during the investigation, is expected to help establish the circumstances and sequence of the offence.
Jammu Police said it remains committed to conducting a fair, thorough and evidence-based investigation and ensuring that all persons found involved in the case are dealt with strictly in accordance with law.
