NEW DELHI: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested its indigenously designed and developed Military Combat Parachute System (MCPS) at the Nyoma-Mudh Drop Zone in Ladakh, one of the world’s highest-altitude drop zones.
According to DRDO, the system was developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) and tested under extreme high-altitude conditions.
ADRDE test jumpers Wing Commander Rahul Jha, Chief Test Jumper; MWO R.J. Singh, VM(G); and MWO Vivek Tiwari executed the jump from an altitude of 22,000 feet above mean sea level, where the temperature was around minus 15 degrees Celsius.
The team used the MCPS along with associated sub-systems, including an indigenous para computer, oxygen system and jumpsuits.
The parachute was deployed at 20,000 feet, followed by a safe landing at an altitude of 13,700 feet.
DRDO said the successful trial demonstrated the efficacy, reliability and tactical employability of the MCPS under extreme high-altitude conditions.
The test also reinforced India’s push towards self-reliance in critical defence technologies, with the system and its key supporting equipment developed indigenously.
