NEW DELHI: As the BJP heads toward a sweeping victory in Bihar—securing well over a two-thirds majority in a high-stakes electoral battle—the party has launched a sharp attack on the Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of becoming “a symbol of consistent electoral losses.”
In the run-up to polling, Rahul Gandhi undertook a 16-day Voter Adhikar Yatra, covering 20 districts while alleging “vote chori” and accusing the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP. The Congress and the INDIA bloc projected the election as a crucial “battle to save the Constitution” from what they described as a “vote-thief government.” Gandhi was one of the Congress party’s key star campaigners in Bihar.
However, the rhetoric failed to translate into electoral gains, with the Congress and the INDIA alliance headed for a major setback.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, said:
“Another election, another defeat! If there were awards for electoral consistency (of losing polls), he’d sweep them all. At this rate, even setbacks must be wondering how he finds them so reliably.”
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi mocked the Congress by citing poet Kabir Das, urging the party to introspect and verify voter lists:
“After crossing 150 and 175 seats, we’re now moving towards 200… They should understand Kabir’s words: ‘Bura jo dekhan main chala, bura na milya koi. Jo mann khoja apna, to mujhse bura na koi.’”
The BJP-led NDA has maintained a decisive lead since counting began, currently ahead in 199 seats. The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan trails with 38 seats, while the Congress leads in just four constituencies. Within the NDA, the BJP is ahead in 90, the JDU in 81, and Chirag Paswan’s LJP in 21 seats.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the trends vindicate the BJP’s governance model:
“The people’s message is clear: no jungle raj, no gundaraj, no appeasement, no nepotism, no scams, no corruption, no arrogance, and no casteism. Bihar accepts only good governance, development, and transparent leadership.” He described the RJD-Congress alliance as “nothing but deception.”
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also targeted Rahul Gandhi, saying:
“Rahul Gandhi is No. 1 — undisputed, unchallenged, and unbeaten… Ninety-five elections lost and counting. It’s no coincidence this happens on Jawaharlal Nehru ji’s birthday.”
