RAMBAN: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan today visited Government Degree College where he inspected the ongoing 2-day exhibition on ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ organised by the College Administration.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, Tehsildar Headquarters Reejuta Mahajan, and other officers of the District Administration.
The two-day exhibition on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day which concluded today, was organised to commemorate the suffering, trauma and displacement endured by millions of people during the Partition of India in 1947.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner went around the exhibition and appreciated the college administration for highlighting the historical, social and humanitarian dimensions of the Partition. He emphasised the importance of remembering the painful chapter of history and urged students to draw lessons from the past, particularly the devastating consequences of hatred, intolerance and social division.
Earlier, the College Principal Prof Romesh Kumar Atri welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of the events of historical importance in promoting peace, communal harmony and national unity among the younger generation.
As part of the day’s programme, students of the host college and GDC Ukhral presented theatrical performances depicting the human suffering and mass displacement caused by Partition. A documentary film portraying various aspects of the Partition was also screened.
A large number of students, including those from neighbouring schools, participated in the commemorative activities and visited the exhibition.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Vishal Baloria, with faculty members and staff extending active support for its successful conduct.
