JAMMU: Veteran Congress leader and former Member of Parliament Dharampal Sharma passed away at his residence in Jammu on Sunday after prolonged age-related ailments.
A nonagenarian, Sharma had been keeping unwell for some time due to health issues associated with advanced age.
A senior Congress leader from Jammu and Kashmir, Sharma had a long political career and served as a Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from the Akhnoor constituency for four terms.
He also represented the Congress in the Rajya Sabha from 1988 to 1994.
His last rites will be performed at the Shastri Nagar cremation ground in Jammu at 1 pm.
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee expressed deep grief over Sharma’s demise.
JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, on behalf of the party, conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength to bear the loss.
“The entire rank and file of the Congress party deeply condoles the sad demise and prays for peace to the departed soul,” Ravinder Sharma said in a condolence message.
Congress leaders remembered Dharampal Sharma for his long association with the party and his contribution to public life in Jammu and Kashmir.
