SHOPIAN: Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Shopian, organised an awareness programme at Anganwadi Centre (AWC), Dairoo, Shopian, with the objective of sensitising women about their rights, government welfare schemes, women-centric initiatives and support services available to them.
During the programme, participants were sensitised about various government schemes and initiatives aimed at promoting the social, economic and overall empowerment of women. The team also elaborated on the objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), emphasising the importance of protecting, educating and empowering the girl child and ensuring equal opportunities for girls.
Detailed awareness was also imparted regarding the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, with particular emphasis on preventing sex selection, safeguarding the dignity of the girl child and promoting a healthy gender balance in society.
The participants were further informed about important helpline numbers and support services available to women, enabling them to seek timely assistance in cases involving violence, distress, exploitation or other challenges.
As part of the programme, an interactive grievance-redressal session was conducted, providing women with an opportunity to openly share their concerns, problems and difficulties. The Sankalp Hub team patiently heard their grievances and provided appropriate guidance regarding relevant schemes, services and institutional mechanisms available for resolution. The participants were encouraged to approach the concerned departments and support institutions whenever necessary.
The programme witnessed active participation from women and served as a meaningful platform for awareness, dialogue and grassroots-level problem-solving.
The initiative reaffirmed the commitment of Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Shopian, towards reaching women at the community level, enhancing awareness about their rights and entitlements, and strengthening their access to welfare schemes, support services and grievance-redressal mechanisms.
The programme concluded with the reaffirmation of the message that an informed woman is an empowered woman, while an educated, protected and empowered girl child is the foundation of a stronger and more equitable society.
