MUMBAI: Reliance Foundation Founder and Chairperson Nita M. Ambani on Monday announced a contribution of Rs 21 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support families affected by the devastating floods in the state.
The contribution is in addition to the relief and rehabilitation work already being undertaken by Reliance Foundation, Vantara and volunteers from across the Reliance group in the flood-hit areas.
Expressing solidarity with the affected people, Ambani said her thoughts and prayers were with every family impacted by the disaster.
“Our thoughts, prayers and deepest solidarity are with the people of Assam. My heart goes out to every family who has been affected by these devastating floods. Please know that you are not alone,” she said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Ambani and Reliance Foundation for their continued support during difficult times.
In a social media post, Sarma recalled the foundation’s assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic and appreciated the latest contribution for flood-affected families in Upper Assam.
He also acknowledged the work being undertaken by Reliance Foundation teams to provide food, public health services, emergency shelter and care for livestock.
Ambani said teams from Reliance Foundation and Vantara were working alongside the Assam Government and local communities to extend all possible assistance.
“The people of Assam have always shown extraordinary courage and resilience in the face of adversity. We stand with you today, and we will continue to stand with you in the days ahead, as together we rebuild lives, restore hope and emerge stronger than before,” she said.
Reliance Foundation has launched a multi-sectoral response in the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo, with the aim of reaching at least 50,000 vulnerable people with critical relief and recovery assistance.
The relief measures include restoration of damaged water supply systems, deployment of water-purification units, operation of community kitchens, provision of hot meals, desilting and restoration of health centres and door-to-door veterinary services by Vantara teams.
The foundation is also coordinating with local authorities to ensure that assistance reaches the most affected families.
Officials said thousands of people in the two districts had already benefited from the interventions, which would be expanded in the coming days.
The relief programme is also focused on restoring habitations through community-led efforts so that displaced families can return from relief camps to their homes at the earliest.
