REASI: In a continued drive against illicit liquor smuggling, Reasi Police today apprehended one person and seized a consignment of illegal liquor during naka checking at Sool Kakryal.
During routine naka checking, police personnel noticed a pedestrian coming from the Manthal side carrying a brown-colored carton tied with a black cloth. On being stopped and questioned, the individual disclosed his identity as Anil Kumar, son of Soba Ram, resident of Panthal, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi (Age 42 years).
Upon checking the carton, 62 quarter bottles (250 ml each) of DMB JK Special Whiskey were recovered from his possession. As the accused was transporting the liquor without any valid permit, he was found violating the provisions of the Excise Act.
In this regard, Case FIR No. 289/2025 U/S 48(a) Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Katra, and the accused has been taken into custody. The illicit liquor has been seized on the spot.
The entire operation was conducted under the leadership of SHO Police Station Katra, Insp. Khyatiman Khajuria, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS, and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS.
SSP Reasi, Paramvir Singh, JKPS, reiterated that District Police Reasi remains committed to curbing the menace of illicit liquor smuggling and dealing firmly with violators. He further stated that such naka checking drives and enhanced surveillance will continue across the district to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law.
