REASI: Continuing its crackdown on drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Reasi Police has registered two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against two individuals found to have consumed narcotic substances in Katra town.
According to police, the first case was registered after a police party from Police Station Katra, during routine patrolling near Bhumika Mandir, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Jatin, son of Surjeet Singh, a resident of Papoli, Panipat, Haryana, presently residing at Railway Road, Katra.
Although no incriminating material was recovered during his personal search, he was taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Katra, where a Rapid Multi-Drug Urine Test Kit confirmed the consumption of narcotic substances. Subsequently, FIR No. 214/2026 under Sections 8/27 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra, and further investigation has been initiated.
In another incident, a police party on routine patrol noticed another individual on Railway Road, Katra, displaying suspicious behaviour, including an unsteady gait, drowsiness and red, congested eyes. During questioning, he identified himself as Shubham Sharma, son of Yashpaul, a resident of Searli, Katra.
He was also taken to CHC Katra, where a Rapid Multi-Drug Urine Test Kit confirmed the presence of THC, indicating consumption of narcotic substances. Police subsequently registered FIR No. 215/2026 under Sections 8/27 of the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway.
Reasi Police reiterated its commitment to eliminating drug abuse and narcotics trafficking from the district and appealed to the public to share information related to drug activities to help build a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.
