BARAMULLA: The Regional-cum-Facilitation Centre, Northern Region-II (RCFC NR-II), National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, SKUAST-Kashmir, conducted pre-programme activities at SRM Welkin School, Sopore, today ahead of the 11th Ayurveda Day celebrations scheduled to be held on September 22 and 23, 2026, under the theme “Ayurveda for Healthier Tomorrow.”
The programme focused on promoting awareness about medicinal plants, their conservation, scientific cultivation and sustainable utilization in the context of Ayurveda.
As part of the programme, the technical team of RCFC NR-II conducted an awareness session on “Sustainable Cultivation and Harvesting of Medicinal Plants.” Dr. Sofi Imtiyaz Ali, Project Manager, RCFC NR-II, sensitized the participants about the importance of conserving medicinal plant resources and adopting scientific cultivation and sustainable harvesting practices to ensure their long-term availability.
Dr. Sofi also highlighted the need to integrate the traditional wisdom of Ayurveda with scientific, sustainable and evidence-based practices for promoting the responsible utilization of medicinal plants.
A Green Ayurveda Plantation Drive was also organised within the school premises, during which medicinal plant saplings were planted to encourage students to actively participate in the conservation of valuable medicinal plant resources.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and teaching staff of SRM Welkin School, Sopore, along with the technical team of RCFC NR-II. The participants were encouraged to adopt scientific cultivation practices, conserve medicinal plants and explore entrepreneurial and livelihood opportunities in the medicinal plants sector with technical guidance and institutional support from RCFC NR-II.
The programme concluded with a call to carry forward the vision of “Ayurveda for Healthier Tomorrow” through greater awareness, conservation and sustainable utilization of medicinal plants.
