In a unique evening where art met empathy, Rangyug – Theatre for Social Change and Self-Realisation – in collaboration with 92.7 BIG FM, staged a special charity performance of its acclaimed Dogri play “Chanchlo” at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
The proceeds from the event will go towards supporting families affected by the recent floods in Jammu & Kashmir.
The performance was graced by B.M. Sharma (IFS), Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL, and Ashwani Khajuria, Director Hospitality & Protocols, who praised Rangyug’s rare initiative of blending theatre with social responsibility. They also commended 92.7 BIG FM’s ‘Hands for Humanity’ campaign for partnering in this noble cause.

Speaking on the occasion, B.M. Sharma lauded Rangyug’s commitment to social causes through art:
“What makes this effort truly remarkable is that Rangyug has connected theatre with charity — something very rare in our cultural landscape. Dedicating an entire performance to flood victims is an extraordinary gesture. It proves that art is not only about aesthetics but also empathy and responsibility. Such initiatives set an inspiring example for the entire cultural fraternity.”
He also praised RJ Dr. Juhie Mohan, who carried the solo performance with brilliance, describing her as the heart of the production:
“Her effortless shifts between emotions, her ability to hold the audience for ninety minutes, and her command over the stage speak volumes about her artistry. Under the seasoned direction of Shri Deepak Kumar, the play attained a rare balance of humour, depth, and emotional intensity.”
About the Play
“Chanchlo”, adapted in Dogri by RJ Dr. Juhie Mohan from Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s Hindi play “Sakubai”, tells the moving story of a domestic help — capturing her spirit, struggles, humour, and inner strength. With sharp dialogues and emotional depth, the play not only entertained but also evoked reflection on society’s treatment of the marginalised.

The charity show concluded to an overwhelming standing ovation, a testament to both the play’s impact and the ensemble’s dedication. It stood out as one of the most compelling recent presentations in Dogri theatre.
Rangyug and BIG FM extended gratitude to donors, sponsors, and contributors for their support. All proceeds will be directed towards flood relief and rehabilitation measures. To ensure inclusivity, the performance was kept open for those unable to contribute financially as well.
