UDHAMPUR: Department of Social Welfare, Udhampur, under Mission Shakti, in collaboration with the District Urban Development Agency on Monday organised a one-day orientation programme for Self Help Groups. The objective was to promote financial inclusion, credit linkages and sustainable income generation opportunities for women.
Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the DC encouraged the participants to make avail benefits of government schemes and institutional support for expanding their existing activities and developing new micro-enterprises.
The program was attended by CEO Jammu Urban Development Agency Parvaiz Naik; District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta and PO DUDA Zaffar Abaas.
The programme focused on sensitising and empowering SHG members about the avenues for accessing institutional credit, strengthening their financial capacity and undertaking viable income-generating activities. The participants were also oriented on the importance of proper financial planning, utilisation of credit for productive purposes and strengthening their group-based enterprises.
The resource persons from Employment, Agriculture, Horticulture, SBI-RSETTI, EDI, Handicraft, Cooperative and LDM interacted with the SHG members and provided guidance regarding credit linkage, bank finance, available schemes, entrepreneurship opportunities and livelihood activities.
The DSWO also spoke on the occasion and emphasised that strengthening the economic independence of women is a key component of Mission Shakti and that SHGs can play a significant role in creating sustainable livelihoods and improving the socio-economic well-being of women and their families.
The programme provided a platform for SHG members to raise their queries, understand the process of availing credit facilities and explore suitable income-generation opportunities.
The participants expressed their appreciation for the initiative and sought continued handholding and support for strengthening their enterprises.
